It’s not the first time someone was surprised to learn that I love hip-hop. It’s actually my second love in life, the first being basketball.
Here’s the thing: the assumptions we make about people are often wrong. It’s not your fault though. We have to make assumptions to make sense of the world.
But when you’re in a selling situation, it’s your assumptions that’ll kill your progress. Your assumptions may be completely wrong, and almost always incomplete.
So yes, I love hip-hop. I even produce hip-hop, rap, and record it when I have time. I can prove it.
What are you assuming about your potential clients?
Acknowledge them, then check those assumptions at the door.
