In everything we do, we need to know when to stop. It’s one of those great, indispensable skills that separates the artful from the unaware.
When we do too much of something, we hit a threshold that risks ruining the good things that came before it. When we hit the threshold, our work is undone. We’ve done too much.
Perhaps finding the balance is one of our greatest challenges.
The only way to find it is to push and fail. Take note, try again, and fail once again. As we calibrate, we have operate in the area of the skillful. We know when to stop. We know when to start and continue.
We know how to do the right amount, and stop before it’s too much.
