This week I spent quite a bit of time working on my business infrastructure. In particular, I spent many hours working out the kinks in my CRM and email marketing.
The results are marginally better than before.
It’s reminded me of something: change is certain, progress is not.
Certainly things will be different one, three, or five years from now. The farther we look into the future, the more certain we can be that many things will be different.
What we don’t know is how much progress we’ll make. That’s something else entirely.
Since embarking on a change can only be done with an educated case about why things will be better, but not necessarily the certainty of it, we’re bound to make mistakes along the way. That’s expected.
And since we’ll make mistakes, the name of the game is calibration. That is, as we make mistakes, it’s our duty to reflect on them, understand why we made the mistake, and what we could’ve done to better understand the risks.
Even though progress is not certain, we can make it more certain with the right intention.
