A Shrinking World?

“It’s a small world. Am I right?”

You’ve heard this before. Yet the world has 7 billion people and 57 million square miles of land.

From the perspective of a feeble lil’ human, the world is anything but small.

As you specialize, connect with people, and extend your professional network, something strange happens: it does get smaller.

Seemingly unconnected people know each other directly or through mutual connections. You get referrals from people who you haven’t spoken to in years. People do favors for you out of the blue.

We don’t live in “the world,” we live in “a world.” And the more people you know in your world, the more likely it is to become small.
